Let's just say it didn't go well for Doug. I elected to go first and infiltrated my storm troopers right in front of Doug's left flank. On the first turn, my Chimera immobilized his Rhino (filled with a Crusader squad) with its multi-laser and my Sentinels blew up his predator with their lascannons. My storm troopers attempted to halt his assault squad's inevitable advance with their infiltrate and "first shots pin" rule, but only managed to knock down one and Doug passed his leadership checks. Finally, my Leman Russ nailed one of his crusader squads, taking down 6 initiates/neophytes.
With his right flank anti-armor units either a smoking hole in the ground or not in decent position to counter, my Leman Russ pretty much ruled the left side. The game was pretty much won for me. Doug's assault marines managed to avenge their fallen brother and kill off my storm troopers, but that was about it. My leman russ had an astonishing kill count: Six Templars in the crusader squad, Castellan Nevarre and his retinue and another three marines in Doug's ranged crusader squad. In addition, my sentinels performed beautifully, as usual. With a couple assault marines and a predator added to their ever increasing kill tally.
You can't help but feel sorry for Doug, though. He had some pretty bad luck, especially when it came to Reclusiarch Matellus deep striking in and landing right on my Leman Russ. He rolled a 2 for his deep strike mishap, destroying Matellus. Ouch.
Regardless of the luck, I felt like the 101st did very well. I was worried about their survivability without their usual marine meat shields, but apparently the old adage of "The best defense is a good gunline that fills marines full of holes" is just as true as it ever was.
In other news, my parts have been pouring in from Ebay and Games Workshop, and my army is finally coming together with some semblance of order. Hopefully before the week is out, I'll be at full strength with 100% of my models ready for my 1850 point list.
GG
Psy out.
This is one the things that bugs me about 40K. You can kind of lose the game the first turn if the rolls turn that way.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, he could have done some serious damage if his chaplain hadn't have landed on my Leman Russ, as I didn't really have any anti-terminator on my left flank other than that Russ. Well, I guess there were the sentinels, but if I had divided my fire into the terminator chaplain, then his assault marines would have chopped up my flank instead.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's not so much a problem with 40k as it is with dice games in general. But eh, some days the dice are with you and some days the dice are against you. It's just the nature of the beast.
Yeah man. It was just a really bad game for me. It was fun, don't get me wrong--I just had tons of bad luck rolling in. If I could have gotten Matellus on your Leman Russ, or the Assault squad on your Sentinels, I might have stood a better chance. Also all those lucky rolls you got off at the beginning of the game really crippled me. But that's how it goes. Next skirmish I may very likely tear you to shreds.
ReplyDeleteWell played, sir.
(Oh, and it was a one that I rolled on that deep strike table. Derp.)
Ah, well, same result, lol.
